Science is beautiful. The aesthetic experience highlights the beauty and wonder inherent in science and has been found beneficial for educational purposes by inducing emotional responses that bring about renewed interest and excitement. I explore how aesthetic experiences that evoke emotions such as wonder, awe, and dread influence youth engagement with informal science content on YouTube and their sense of community within these digital spaces. Grounded in John Dewey’s concept of aesthetic experience, the research extends the inquiry into aesthetic emotions within informal learning contexts beyond physical spaces to digital platforms. My research findings reveal that aesthetic experiences can foster deeper engagement and a sense of belonging among viewers. This highlights the potential for educators and science communicators to harness aesthetic experiences in creating immersive and transformative science learning opportunities across various online platforms.
